We’re excited to share that the first phase of the AiSEPTRON study has now been published!

In this early-stage research, we looked at how machine learning could help emergency teams better identify children at risk of serious infections or sepsis. Using anonymised electronic health records from over 35,000 children who visited our emergency department, we developed models to predict the likelihood of needing antibiotics, critical care, or extended hospital treatment — all based on information available at triage or shortly afterwards.

This work marks an important step toward building clinical decision-support tools that could help frontline staff spot serious illness earlier and improve outcomes for children.
